Seedcamp finalists announced. Still major UK presence.

Posted by Stefano Bernardi On September - 10 - 2009

Seedcamp, the major european startup programme, has just announced its finalists. (Techcrunch Europe was the first to report it).
As you can see, the majority of the teams are based in London and other parts of the UK, that was pretty much predictable.

There are quite a few teams coming from eastern Europe and that’s very nice, unfortunately there are none from Italy, Spain, Greece, France and just one from Germany.
The teams who aren’t already in London, will move there for a 3 months period, where they will get mentoring, advice and funding.

Here are the 21 finalists:

  2. @Vlad – Hi Vlad,
I’m not against it at all.
I have come to realize, after witnessing with my own eyes, that England is far ahead in the startup creation and development process.
This is just another point that proves it.

Unfortunately we are not that active in southern Europe for a number of reasons (if you want to know my opinion you can contact me and I’ll be glad to have a chat about it).
The thing that surprised me was the number of eastern european startups in the finalists list, and I think it’s awesome that those guys are pushing it that hard, and emerging just with their work.

Hope you got my point now..

Actually, there is a team from France. The original blog post says that Kwaga, previous winner of Mini Seedcamp Paris, will join the finalists, along with Platogo from Austria.

  4. @Ronan – I think they will just go to the Seedcamp Week, and won’t get the 3 months of mentoring and coaching. But I’m not sure about that.

Indeed Kwaga and Platogo will get both support in the Seedcamp Week and the 3 months after. We decided to invest in them earlier in the process but they are very much part of the Class of 2009 and hence will benefit from the entire programme. Am certain it’s a big reason for them to want to be part of Seedcamp in the first place.

  6. @Reshma – Great news! Thanks for the update Reshma! See you there ;)

  7. Hi Stefano,

Indeed there are no southern European Start-ups participating in SeedCamp this year, but considering the “Mediterranean” geographical region (and hopefully one day Geopolitical region, when peace be among us), there are 2 representatives: Israel (YubiTech which I am part of) and Jordan (Talasim).
